Deposit Anywhere is a feature on our mobile banking app that allows you to conveniently, quickly and securely deposit Canadian cheques by taking a picture using your mobile smartphone or tablet. With Deposit Anywhere, any time is the right time to deposit cheques!
Depositing a cheque with Deposit Anywhere is easy.
1. Open up our mobile banking app.
2. Tap the “deposit” button.
3. Select the account you’d like the funds deposited to.
4. Enter the amount.
5. Take a photo of the front and back of the cheque.
6. Confirm the details and tap “submit”.
The funds will then be deposited securely into your account. Standard holds apply as funds may require time to clear.
No. There are no fees to use this service.
Similar to deposits at an ATM or in the branch, standard holds on items apply and the funds may require time to clear.
You can deposit cheques payable in Canadian dollars and drawn at any Canadian financial institution. The cheque must be payable to and endorsed by you, the account holder.
Cheques payable in a foreign currency cannot be deposited through Deposit Anywhere.
In the rare circumstance that there is an issue with the deposit after you receive confirmation during the deposit, you will be contacted by HMECU.
No. Once you have submitted the cheques using Deposit Anywhere, you do not need to send the cheques to HMECU. However you are required to keep your cheque for 90 days, after which it must be destroyed.
Write 'deposited' across the front of the cheque as a reminder that you have already deposited this cheque. Keep the cheque in a safe place. After 90 days form the deposit date, you should destroy the cheque.
Deposit Anywhere uses software which detects the amount written on the cheque and verifies it to the amount you’ve entered on deposit. If these amounts do not match, you will receive an error message and be prompted to re-enter the correct amount.
If the amount you entered is the amount on the cheque but you are still receiving an error message, the software may be detecting a different amount on the cheque. In this case, it’s best to deposit your cheque in branch or at an ATM.
Deposit Anywhere performs over 30 image quality assurance tests on each picture submitted to ensure that the image is accurate and that each field can be read. If the image does not meet all the criteria, the deposit transaction fails and you will be asked to take a new picture.
Yes. With Deposit Anywhere there are no additional security concerns beyond those currently associated with physical cheque deposits. As a feature of HMECU’s mobile banking app, Deposit Anywhere meets the same high standards as our mobile and online banking services. An image of the cheque will never be stored on your phone.
The maximum dollar amount limits are as follows:
- Daily: $10,000
- Weekly: $25,000
- Monthly: $50,000
No. There is no limit to how many cheques you can deposit using this app.
